Filipino Bishop raises voice against the legalization of abortion
Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara of Pasig, Vice President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines, invited all the faithful to realize the legalization of abortion as a threat to human life during his message on the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
"The society faces many challenges, but it is important to remember that the Blessed Mother was born according to God's will and that every human life has a purpose in the world," said Bishop Vergara.
"Like every birth, it is very important to see that the birth of the Blessed Mother gives the importance and significant message to preserve and appreciate life" Bishop Vergara's statement to Radio Veritas 846 - Philippines.
According to Bishop Vergara, there are various threats to human life, such as abortions in other countries where babies are denied the right to see the world created by God.
It was the bishop's appeal to the people to unite in promoting the value of life from conception to natural death that received the most attention.
The bishop also encouraged the faithful to reflect on Mary's birth as a sign of the re-intensification of Christian activities.
"The birth of Mary should signal to us the birth of good works. What should be reborn in us in our Christian life is to do works of charity to the poorest of the poor," said Bishop Vergara.
This is also an opportunity for the church to invite people to live in holiness, like Mary, who wholeheartedly responded to the Lord's message to conceive Jesus, who would redeem the sins of the world.
Every September 8, the Catholic Church celebrates the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the ninth month after December 8, the Immaculate Conception, or Santa Ana's conception of Mary.
