The Catholic Biblical Association of the Philippines (CBAP) has re-elected Dominican Father Clarence Victor C. Marquez, OP, as President of the Board of Trustees.

Father Marquez, currently serving as Vice-Rector of the University of Santo Tomas-Central Seminary in Manila, will continue to lead the association in its mission to promote biblical scholarship and deepen the understanding of sacred scripture in the country.

The CBAP is an esteemed organization comprised of Bible exegetes, theologians, and professors across the Philippines.

Since its founding in 1999, the association has been at the forefront of advancing biblical studies by encouraging rigorous research, organizing scholarly conferences, and publishing academic works that contribute to the growth of biblical literacy and theology in the country.

Under Father Marquez's leadership, the CBAP continues to focus on fostering meaningful dialogue between the scriptures and contemporary issues, offering new insights into biblical texts that resonate with the Filipino faithful.

His re-election signals a continuity in the association's vision to remain a key platform for theological and biblical discourse.

A highlight of the CBAP’s recent activities was the 25th annual convention, which gathered biblical scholars from various institutions nationwide. The convention was held at the Mere Monique Retreat Center in Lapaz, Iloilo City, where the theme revolved around exploring the role of scripture in addressing modern challenges within the Church and society.

On the final day of the convention, September 22, a thanksgiving Mass and commissioning of the newly-elected CBAP Board of Trustees were held, presided over by Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, the President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

During the Mass, Bishop David emphasized the vital role of scripture in guiding the faithful amid the complexities of modern life, praising the CBAP’s contributions to biblical education in the country.

The re-election of Father Marquez underscores his dedication to continuing the work of strengthening the connection between biblical scholarship and pastoral ministry, particularly in shaping homiletic and catechetical efforts across dioceses in the Philippines.

His leadership will likely guide the CBAP in furthering its mission to integrate scripture more deeply into the fabric of the Filipino Catholic experience, in both academic and pastoral settings.

In addition to the annual convention, CBAP remains committed to organizing workshops, publishing critical studies, and collaborating with local dioceses to train catechists and pastoral workers, ensuring that biblical teachings remain accessible and relevant to all segments of the Filipino population.
