Caritas Bangladesh, the social action arm of the Catholic Church, marked the dual celebrations of the 2025 Teg O Sheha Abhijan (Lenten Campaign) and Caritas Sunday at Chattogram Region on April 6.

The theme was “Let Us Journey Together in Faith and Hope.”

The event served as a spiritual reflection and a call to social action, echoing the Synodal Church’s vision of a faith-driven and service-oriented society.

Held with solemnity and purpose, the celebration drew a diverse gathering of religious leaders, Caritas officials, dignitaries, and grassroots representatives, demonstrating the power of collective resolve in addressing social challenges.

Holy Cross Archbishop Lawrence Subrato Howlader graced the occasion as the chief guest, with Vicar General Father Terence Rodrigues serving as the special guest.

Marcel Ratan Guda, regional director of Caritas Bangladesh Chattogram, chaired the program, opening the event with remarks on the campaign’s goals and its alignment with Caritas’ mission of promoting justice, peace, and integral human development.

The interfaith dialogue featured prominently, as speakers representing Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Christianity offered perspectives rooted in compassion, human dignity, and the sacred call to serve others. Their collective message underscored the expression of true devotion through action, focusing on uplifting the poor, protecting the vulnerable, and fostering inclusive communities.

Amid rising global individualism and social fragmentation, participants reflected on the growing disconnect between spiritual ideals and everyday realities.

In his address, Archbishop Subrato urged a renewed focus on shared human values. “Let us not only talk about love and justice but live them. Our unity in faith should drive transformation in society—not only in personal lives.”

The event also highlighted the unwavering dedication of Caritas staff, with 27 employees honored with Long Service Awards for ten to 20–30 years of service. Their work stands as a testament to Caritas’ enduring presence and commitment in the region.

The dual observance reinforced Caritas Bangladesh’s pledge to foster interreligious harmony, social equity, and hope amid adversity. It concluded with a renewed call to journey together, in faith and action.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
