Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão leads new FABC leadership team into office

Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrao, the archbishop of Goa and Daman in India, Cardinal-elect Pablo Virgilio David, Bishop of Kalookan, Philippines and Cardinal Tarcisio Kikuchi of Tokyo continuing as Secretary General.

The Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC) has ushered in its new leadership team, effective January 1, 2025.

Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, Archbishop of Goa and President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), assumes the presidency, joined by Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David of Kalookan, Philippines, as Vice President, and Cardinal Tarcisio Kikuchi of Tokyo continuing as Secretary General.

Cardinal Ferrão succeeds Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, SDB, Archbishop of Yangon and President of the Episcopal Conference of Myanmar, who served two three-year terms. 

He was elected as FABC President during the Central Committee Meeting in Bangkok on February 22, 2024. 

The Federation comprises bishops from South, Southeast, East, and Central Asia, representing 15 Asian Catholic Bishops’ Conferences, including those of Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, Malaysia-Singapore-Brunei, Indonesia, Timor Leste, the Philippines, Korea, Japan, the Bishops’ Conference of Central Asia, and the Chinese Regional Bishops’ Conference. 

Additionally, Associate Members include bishops from Macau, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Nepal, and Novosibirsk. 

The Federation also encompasses all Bishops of India, totaling 277, from the Latin, Syro-Malabar, and Syro-Malankara Churches.

 

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
