The Social Action Ministry of the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan in Pangasinan, initiated a Day of Prayer for the West Philippine Sea, aiming to promote the peaceful resolution of the territorial dispute between the Philippines and China.

St. John the Evangelist Parish in Infanta, Pangasinan, emphasized the importance of strengthening prayers and seeking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary to achieve the country's desired unity and peace.

“As a Pueblo Amante de Maria, let us unite as a community to pray and seek the intercession of Our Lady for peace in the West Philippine Sea and the protection of the entire Philippines,” stated the parish.

The Marian Prayer Voyage took place on July 16, 2024, beginning with a holy mass at six o’clock in the morning at Sto. Niño Chapel, Legaspi Compound, Brgy. Cato, Infanta, Pangasinan.

The celebration was led by Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas, along with Alaminos Bishop Napoleon Sipalay Jr. and priests from the province.

Following the Mass, a fluvial rosary parade was held in Dasol Bay, with participation from the faithful across the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan, Diocese of Alaminos, and Diocese of Urdaneta.

The Social Action Ministry partnered with the Cato Pastoral Council, Cato Barangay Council, St. John the Evangelist Parish-Infanta, Philippine Coast Guard, Infanta Maritime Law Enforcement Team, Cato Infanta Fisherfolk Association Inc., and Mrs. Melanie Martinez, wife of Infanta Mayor Marvin Martinez.

Archbishop Villegas previously launched a 50-day rosary campaign for the West Philippine Sea, beginning on June 27.

Additionally, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines is expected to publish the Oratio Imperata for Peace, which will be prayed from July 25, the feast of Apostle James, until January 1, 2025, in celebration of the World Day of Prayer for Peace.
