2023 Ramon Magsaysay Awardees will be named on August 31
August 31 is a special date for the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation, as the late president was born on this day, said foundation chairman Aurelio R. Montinolla III.
"To celebrate this important date, the Foundation will be announcing globally this year's recipients of the Ramon Magsaysay Award at 11:00 AM Philippine Time," he said in a press release. "It will be livestreamed on the Ramon Magsaysay Award’s Facebook page and YouTube channel."
Despite the massive and persistent challenges facing people across Asia, some individuals have worked hard on solutions that could help communities make themselves better.
"Asia deals with numerous daunting social issues on a daily basis," Montinolla said. "Yet, amid these seemingly insurmountable challenges, we have witnessed individuals who share the same vision with the Foundation. This year, we proudly honor the four Magsaysay Awardees who fearlessly tackle these problems, employing a practice of empathy and a solution-oriented approach that brings about transformative change in their communities."
The 65th celebration seeks positive changes in Asia and enlivens the world with shared leadership examples and practices.
"This year serves as a milestone year as the foundation celebrates its 65th anniversary," said Susanna B. Afan, foundation president. "The foundation anchors its theme on ‘Transforming Asia, Inspiring the World’ as we strive to share more stories of remarkable global leadership aligned with our hopes to continuously transform Asia and inspire the world."
The semi-circles on the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award medallion denote the dynamic and life-changing works of the awardees.
According to Afan, "The gradient strokes of the semi-circle represent the dynamic nature of society. Yet, amid these constant changes, the Ramon Magsaysay Award remains firm in its mission to honor progress through its Magsaysay Laureates. We believe that the work of this year’s four Magsaysay Awardees serves as a call of hope and inspiration for us all—that kindness and selfless service can transform lives for the better."
The Ramon Magsaysay Award has, since 1958, been recognizing and honoring people who demonstrated greatness of spirit and worked to help communities across Asia transform themselves.
Its laureates are visionaries, innovators, pioneers, artists, humanitarians, peacemakers, and others.
The past Ramon Magsaysay awardees include the Dalai Lama, Akira Kurosawa, Muhammad Yunus, Ela Bhatt, Sir Fazle Abed, and Sr. Eva Fidela Maamo.
The 65th Ramon Magsaysay Awards Festival would demonstrate to the world the works of the 2023 awardees.
The 2023 Ramon Magsaysay Awards are set to conclude on November 11 with the formal Presentation Ceremonies at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila, followed by the launch of the book ‘Greatness of Spirit’ on November 12.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
