June 4, Tuesday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: 2 Peter 3:12-15A, 17-18; Mark 12:13-17

God promised the righteous a new heaven and earth. While waiting, God encourages his people to be pure and faultless in God's sight, to be at peace with him, and to foster their growth in the grace and knowledge of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In the Gospel, some Pharisees and members of Herod's party tested Jesus on a question about where to pay the taxes. Jesus told them to “pay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and God what belongs to God.”

We, as children of God, know that everything ultimately belongs to Him. But as an abiding citizen of the world, paying taxes is one of the duties of every good Christian citizen. Taxes are intended to improve society's efficiency.

Jesus implies that while we have societal obligations, we also need to focus on what God expects of us as his children. God created us in his image and likeness, inviting us to emulate his virtues.

A Christlike attitude can lead us to the heavenly kingdom. We must bring the kingdom of God to our family, friends, colleagues, students, and others.

Call to Action for Catholic Living: Our responsibility lies in working for the Lord, whether it is in “looking after orphans or widows in distress” (James 1:27), giving to the hungry and the naked, visiting those in prison (see Matthew 25:35–36), serving in our workplace (see Colossians 3:22), or doing whatever we do (Colossians 3:23).

Lord, please help us to fulfill our obligation as children of God. Amen.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
