The news was confirmed by Diocesan Secretary, Father Donnie Migo.
Bishop Pareira, known for his wise leadership, served as Bishop of Maumere from January 19, 2008, to July 14, 2018, when the Holy See appointed Mgr. Ewaldus Martinus Sedu as his successor.
Before leading the Diocese of Maumere, he served as Bishop of Weetebula after being appointed by the Vatican on December 21, 1985, and ordained on April 25, 1986.
He chose the episcopal motto "Ut Omnes Unum Sint" (John 17:21), which means "that they may all be one," inspired by the cultural and religious diversity of the Sumba community.
The Holy See accepted Mgr. Pareira’s resignation on September 27, 2016, following his submission in January of that year. He officially ended his duties on July 14, 2018, and later served as the principal consecrator for his successor, Mgr. Sedu, on September 26, 2018.
Born on September 26, 1941, in Lela, Sikka Regency, Flores, Bishop Pareira was the fifth of twelve siblings. He was ordained a priest on August 22, 1971, by Archbishop Donatus Djagom, S.V.D.
He pursued further studies in Rome, specializing in Educational Psychology and Pedagogy.
Bishop Parera’s legacy is marked by his dedication to fostering unity within Indonesia's culturally diverse Church.
