Hope amid crisis: Jubilee Year 2025 inaugurated for Kuki-Zo Community in Manipur

The Archdiocese of Imphal marked the inauguration of the Jubilee Year 2025 for the Kuki-Zo community with a solemn celebration in Lamka, Manipur, India, on December 29, 2024.

The event, held amid the ongoing Manipur crisis, emphasized unity, renewal, and hope. Two inaugural Masses were celebrated: one at Imphal Cathedral, led by Archbishop Linus Neli, and another at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School in Lamka, presided over by Archbishop Emeritus Dominic Lumon.

The Lamka celebration commenced with Father Mark Thang Khan Ai introducing the theme and significance of the Jubilee Year.

This was followed by the hoisting of the Jubilee flag by Archbishop Lumon in the school’s basketball court, a moment symbolizing the start of a year of grace and renewal.

In a moving procession, the symbolic Jubilee crucifix was carried to Good Shepherd Parish Church, where a solemn Holy Mass was celebrated.

During the liturgy, Lumon blessed water, which was sprinkled on the congregation as a symbol of purification and spiritual renewal.

The liturgical celebration was enriched by a parishioner-led choir, whose hymns elevated the spiritual atmosphere.

In his homily, Lumon focused on the central theme of hope, inspired by St. Paul’s teachings. He reminded the faithful that hope in Christ never disappoints, even amidst challenges.

Reflecting Pope Francis’ call for the Jubilee Year, he urged the faithful to embrace prayer, reconciliation, and renewed faith, emphasizing the transformative power of God’s mercy and forgiveness.

Lumon also underscored the importance of pilgrimage during the Jubilee Year. For those unable to visit Rome, he encouraged deepened local faith expressions through sacraments, prayer, and acts of mercy.

Coinciding with the Feast of the Holy Family, the archbishop invited families to emulate the virtues of faith, love, and holiness.

He emphasized the role of parents as stewards of God’s gifts and called upon families to be witnesses of Christ’s love in the world.

The event concluded with a collective commitment to making the Jubilee Year a transformative spiritual journey for all.

Lumon prayed for the guidance of the Holy Family to foster love, unity, and holiness in families and communities. He expressed hope that the Jubilee Year would bring abundant grace and inspire all to radiate Christ’s love in their daily lives.

The day’s events served as a beacon of hope and renewal for the Kuki-Zo community, symbolizing faith’s power to unite and uplift even in times of crisis.
