Ecclesia of Women in Asia: XI Conference in Macau
The XI conference of the Ecclesia of Women in Asia (EWA), an academic forum of Catholic women theologians in Asia, will be held from June 26–30.
The conference, themed "Ecclesia of Women as Synodal Third Space,” will take place at Vila São José, Macau, in a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and virtual participation.
EWA is dedicated to supporting and fostering feminist study, introspection, and writing among Asian Catholic women writers.
It encourages women to study theology that is contextualized and inculturated within Asian reality, promoting mutuality and the integrity of creation.
The forum also addresses issues faced by the disadvantaged and socially excluded, drawing on their spiritual experiences and practices. Additionally, EWA engages in dialogue with other academic fields, Christian faiths, and religions.
EWA was founded in 2002 when 55 female theologians from 17 Asian nations convened in Bangkok, Thailand, for a conference titled "Gathering the Voices of the Silenced: Ecclesia of Women in Asia." The organization celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2022.
At the XI conference, key women theologians will address the participants, and research conducted by Catholic women practicing theology in Asia will be presented.
This research spans grassroots, pastoral, and professional levels. Approximately ten percent of the attendees are either from outside Asia or are members of other faith traditions, highlighting the inclusive and diverse nature of the conference.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
